LVN / LPN Correctional Healthcare

Position Summary

We are seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) to provide healthcare services within a federal correctional environment in SeaTac, WA. This role supports a diverse inmate population and requires strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work respectfully with individuals from varied cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

The LVN/LPN provides direct patient care under the supervision of medical providers and ensures compliance with Bureau of Prisons and institutional healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards
  • Perform duties within scope of LVN/LPN licensure
  • Administer medications (oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular)
  • Assist with medication distribution (pill line)
  • Monitor patient response to treatment
  • Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens
  • Conduct diagnostic testing (EKG, visual acuity testing, lab prep)
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and logs
  • Screen lab results and notify providers of abnormal values
  • Support chronic care clinics (hypertension, diabetes, asthma)
  • Initiate emergency care when required
  • Maintain infection control and sharps safety standards
  • Protect patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Operate EKG and laboratory equipment
  • Observe and report behavioral or mental health concerns
  • Provide first reminder, basic care, and injury guidance
  • Assist with administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted LVN/LPN license in Washington State
  • Ability to work safely and professionally in a correctional setting
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management
  • Understanding of mental health screening basics
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • CPR/BLS certification preferred
