Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join SJKP, LLP's growing U.S. practice. Preference will be given to former prosecutors or attorneys with substantial criminal litigation experience.
The ideal candidate will have experience handling misdemeanor, felony, white-collar and cross-border criminal matters in both state and federal courts. Candidates should be comfortable managing investigations, witness interviews, legal analysis, motion practice, plea negotiations, trial preparation and strategic defense planning for complex criminal cases.
This position will work closely with the Firm's U.S. and Korea-based legal teams and will play a key role in supporting foreign clients and cross-border criminal matters involving the United States and Korea. Korean language proficiency is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
- Prosecutorial / Criminal Litigation Experience: Former prosecutors or attorneys with substantial criminal litigation experience are strongly preferred.
- Client Representation & Defense: Represent clients in misdemeanor, felony, white-collar and cross-border criminal matters in both state and federal courts.
- Investigation & Defense Strategy: Conduct investigations, witness interviews, legal analysis and strategic defense planning for complex criminal matters.
- Trial Procedures & Motion Practice: Handle arraignments, bail hearings, plea negotiations, motions practice, trial preparation, and sentencing submissions.
- International Collaboration: Collaborate with international teams and support foreign clients involved in Korean and U.S. legal matters.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in New York (New Jersey admission also strongly preferred)
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of focused criminal law experience, with a strong emphasis on disputes and litigation
- Exceptional drafting, research and writing skills; ability to manage multiple matters under tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
- Experience in Clio or similar practice management systems.
- Ability to operate with discretion in reputationally sensitive matters.
- Strong adaptability and willingness to work within a dynamic international organization, including the ability to promptly implement instructions and operational directives from the Firm's headquarters and leadership teams.
- Korean language proficiency is a plus.
